Drishti Yoga: The Art of Focused Sight
Nourish your eyes and clear your mind with ancient yogic gaze techniques and modern eye science.
Eye strain and focus issues have become very common today, especially with increased screen time. While we recommend seeing an ophthalmologist for sudden vision changes or severe pain, these effective exercises can support general eye health and relax eye muscles.
1. The 20-20-20 Rule
The most essential exercise if you spend much time at digital screens. Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds. This relaxes the focusing muscles inside the eye.
2. Focus Shifting (Near-Far)
To increase the flexibility of eye muscles: Place your finger 15-20 cm away from your eyes and focus on it. Then, quickly shift your gaze to an object at the other end of the room. Repeat this 10 times, ensuring clarity at both points.
3. Palming (Resting with Palms)
Wonderful for relaxing eye nerves: Warm your palms by rubbing them together. Close your eyes and place your palms over your eye sockets (without pressing on the eyelids). Take deep breaths for 1-2 minutes, focusing on complete darkness.
4. Eye Rolling & Figure Eight
To work the outer muscles that move the eye: Slowly draw circles with your eyes clockwise and then counter-clockwise. Then, imagine drawing an imaginary 8 (or infinity symbol) on the floor about 3 meters away and follow this path with your eyes.
5. Conscious Blinking
We blink less than normal when looking at screens, causing dryness and blurriness. Moisturize the eye surface by blinking your eyes every second for 10 seconds, once a minute.
A Small Reminder
A Small Reminder: While eye exercises are good for muscle fatigue, they do not completely correct refractive errors like myopia or astigmatism.
VIVAYASA Eye Care Tip
We recommend consuming foods rich in Vitamin A and Beta-carotene to support eye health, and performing regular "screen detoxes" at frequent intervals.
